Charles Buechele was born in 1985 in Seattle, Washington but moved around many times over his life. He spent most of his childhood outdoors catching insects and always loved hearing stories but hated to read until his older sister tricked him into it when he was 8. She started reading to him but stopped right when they got to an exciting part in the book. He thought he would read a little on his own, but he just couldn’t put it down. He finished the rest of it that night and realized not all books were boring or too hard to read after all. The next day he set out to find another book and saw a copy of The Hobbit on his father’s bookshelf. He read the whole book in a couple of days and it was then that he knew he wanted to be a writer.

He originally studied entomology and botany in college and dreamed of collecting strange insects and plants in far-away jungles. But he struggled with the many dry scientific papers and reports he had to read and write. It puzzled him why such interesting topics had to be written in such a boring way. One day, he decided to write a lab report in an entirely unorthodox way: he made it both exciting and clear. When he got the report back there was a note written on the top, “Too interesting. Fix it.” He switched his major to English that very day and never looked back. He went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from Seton Hill University in writing popular fiction.

Charles now lives in Texas with his three cats and his growing collection of plants.
